How it Works
Traditionally, cupping practitioners light a small fire in glass or earthenware cups, then put out the fire and immediately apply the cup to the treatment area. The cooling air inside the cup creates a vacuum and pulls the skin into the cup. This causes the blood vessels to expand and encourages blood flow to the treatment area.
The cups stay in place for up to several minutes. At Mind Body Shen, we use the traditional glass cups, “love” cups which are heart shaped, or silicone cups and a rubber pump to create the vacuum.
Why try cupping therapy in Lenexa?
01
Improved Circulation
Cupping increases blood flow and draws blood to the treatment areas. Proper blood circulation helps your body heal, ensures your organs are functioning properly, and keeps your mind sharp.
02
Natural Detox
Cupping is a controlled method of increasing blood circulation throughout your entire body. Intentional, focused increase in blood flow helps flush out toxins through your lymphatic system, detoxing your system. It is believed that you can learn about the condition of your blood based on the color of the cupping marks. Certain marks indicate a high level of toxins in the body, which cupping alleviates.
03
Non-Invasive Pain Relief
People have used cupping as a form of pain relief for thousands of years. Cupping is a non-invasive way to alleviate chronic pain in the neck, back, shoulders, and more!

What to Expect?
Consultation
We begin each of our treatments at Mind Body Shen with an in-depth consultation. This process is particularly important when it comes to cupping, as it allows us to truly get to know your unique concerns and treatment goals.
Cupping Therapy Treatment
During the cupping treatment, your provider applies the selected cups to the desired treatment area and uses a pump to create gentle to intense suction. During cupping treatments we typically utilize 5 to 12 cups per session, and cups may stay in place for up to 10 minutes. You may feel slight pressure during the cupping process.
Recovery
Although we recommend taking a day to rest and recuperate, you are free to return to normal activities immediately following the treatment. Because of the suction and the expansion of blood vessels, cupping does create marks on the skin. This should diminish within 10 days.
